Excerpt from Joseph Dix' Family History (written in 1897): 

"After all those marriages taking help from the house it was no marvel that brother John was led to believe the scripture “It is not good for man to be alone,” and in the order of providence, he happily gained the confidence of Miss Ann Clark, of Darlington, a truly worthy young woman, and helpmeet for him. And they were married October 6^th, 1853. She was the daughter of Mr. Hugh Clark, and her mother’s name was Elizabeth; native of Devonshire, England."
