  • Excerpt from: Mariposa, the Banner Township : a history of the Township of Mariposa, Victoria County, Ontario page 51: Fletcher DIX, of Little Britain, tapped over 1,000 trees in 1897 and made maple syrup, using a new process he saw at the World's Fair in 1893. Almost every farmer tapped a few trees in the woodlot at the rear of the farm or along the lane and fences to make maple syrup and maple sugar which was used sparingly during the winter.
